mediumInspired by french onion soup, this is one absolutely delicious take on the classic grilled cheese sandwich. And it only requires simple, basic ingredients but provides tons of delectable flavour. So good!
Ingredients
1 tsp olive oil
1 cheese slice
1 medium onion sliced
1 tbsp barbecue sauce
1/4 cup mozarella cheese shredded
1/2 tsp sugar/ sweetener
salt pepper and chilli flakes
2 slices of bread
Instructions
Step 1
Heat the olive oil in a pan over medium heat. add the sliced onion and stir to coat in the oil.
Step 2
Sprinkle the sugar or sweetener over the onions and season with salt, pepper and chilli flakes.stir to combine.
Step 3
Cook the onions, stirring occasionally, for about 15-20 minutes or until they are soft and caramelized.
Step 4
Meanwhile, preheat a skillet over medium heat and add the slices of bread to it.
Step 5
Place the sliced cheese on one of the bread slices, then spread the barbecue sauce on top.
Step 6
Once the onions are caramelized, add them to the bread slice too.
Step 7
Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese on top of the onions.
Step 8
Place the second slice of bread on top of the cheese and press down gently.
Step 9
Cook for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
Step 10
Remove the sandwich from the skillet and let it cool for a minute before slicing it in half and serving. enjoy (perhaps with a side of fries/ wedges).
