super easyIf you prefer a savoury breakfast over sweet, this is 15 min savoury oatmeal recipe is going to be your new favourite. Easily adaptable so you can dress it up however you like, this oatmeal is going to change your mornings.
Ingredients
3 slices bacon finely chopped
1 tsp olive oil
2 cloves garlic minced
1/2 tsp chili powder optional
1 tsp garlic powder
1 cup steel cut oats
1 & 1/4 cup broth of choice or water
3/4 cup milk
salt and pepper to taste
juice of 1/2 a lemon
1 cup cheddar cheese grated
3 tbs chives minced
2 fried eggs to top
minced white onion to top
minced jalapeño to top
fresh cilantro to top
sliced avocado to top
Instructions
Step 1
Over medium low in a medium sized saucepan, crisp up the bacon in the olive oil. once the bacon is crisp (5-7 mins, stirring often), remove from pan with slotted spoon, leaving the grease in the pot.
Step 2
To the hot grease, add the garlic, chili powder, and garlic powder, and sauté stirring often for 30-45 seconds, making sure not to burn the garlic.
Step 3
Add the oats and sauté another 45-60 seconds, stirring often, to toast the oats, then add the water/broth, milk of choice, and salt and pepper to taste.
Step 4
Simmer for 5-7 mins till the oatmeals thickens. at this point, if you want a thinner consistency oatmeal, add more water, 1 tbs at a time, until it reaches desired consistency. stir in the cheese, chives, and lemon juice, and remove from heat.
Step 5
To serve, divide the oatmeal into bowls. top with fried eggs, minced white onion, minced jalapeño, fresh cilantro, and sliced avocado.
